Mount Leinster
Had my first spin up Mount Leinster yesterday, great venue, just wondering if there is anyone out there with info on the tracks as “yes” i did get lost! Sat Nav got me back to the car park but if I could get an idea from someone of the places to go up there it would be great.

Dave(?) Mick O’Neill here. we met yesterday evening up Mt. Leinster. Had a feeling you might get lost, there are a lot of trails up there. One of the other guys I was with would know the mountain and the trails quite well so he might be able to help you out with some trail markers or routes. Hope you enjoyed the area though there are some great areas to ride up there.
I think we may have met last night when you were starting out I’d be happy to show you some of the routes we take. There’s about 20 miles of trail there we did about 16 miles last night and didn’t back track at all. We can try to get out some eveing next week if that suits you let me know. I just that hard tail of yours can take it.
Thanks Lads that would be great. It really seems like a good place alright and so untouched…so far.
Any evening next week would be good for me, I’m traveling from the Gorey direction. If anyone wants a lift let me know and I’ll take the van otherwise I throw the bike into the back of the car.
Dave
Would Thursday evening suit you? Would want to be starting out around 7o’clock, its about a 16 mile spin if that’s OK.
Hi Pat,
That’s good for me, I can be there by 7pm. Which car park will i meet you in? Daragh might be able to come down from Dublin too depending on work etc.
16 miles hey, might have to have my wheatabix on route!
Ho ho, watch out for the killer sheep once the sun goes down!!
Are ye going near the trail where myself and John almost fainted?
Almost Fainted, you never told me that bit ! Yeah I can get to that upper car park if thats near you?
Well, fainted/lying on the ground/trying to puke but can’t sit up!
I’m sure you’s won’t be hitting that one! It’s a corker though.
I’m sure I wouldn’t have had as big a problem if I hadn’t dabbled in mavic components as a teenager!!
I think it would be best to meet you at the co-op in bunclody you can follow me up from there its just before the turn off for the mountain. Ya we will be hitting that loop but i think that was more to do with lack of training than the loop its self. Thats my brother by the way. You can see him on youtube doing a nice emergancy evacuation of a two wheeled vehicle. Just type in ”micks crash”. I think he was looking at the sheep an not where he was going.
Howya Mick, As a reformed shimano junkie, I can assure you that pukeing and feeling faint are the first signs that your body is craving stronger components. Either that, or you are using contaminated mavic gear. You need to get good gear man – try XTR if you can get your hands on it. If you can’t then at least drink plenty of water when you are on the mavic’s, because you will get dehydrated on it. One last word of advice – don’t use mavic on a full stomach.
Hi Pat, I will me you at the co-op tomorrow at 7 then. Had a look at “Micks crash” on youtube last night and decided to buy a good head cam to document my demise!
think we should postpone our little trip till a later date the weather’s meant to be the same tomorrow. we can wait an see what the weekend brings. Some parts are tricky enough up there when its dry especially when you don’t know them.
Yeah, am sitting here in the office looking out the window at the rain and wondering to myself, “Jees I wonder if that fecker wants to go out in that tomorrow, I wouldn’t put a cat out i that”!
Might be heading North this weekend to do a few trails in Antrim with Daragh, he goes up there for work a few times a weeks and says he’s found some good ones.
No bother. Try for some evening next week then. Were you at the race in Djouce the weekend. Me an 2 of the lad were there the corse was great few tough spots had to swollow my pride an push the bike in places.
Daragh, I was actually on XTR when I had that mishap on youtube, next week I’m getting a shipment of Dura Ace, so gravel rash here I come!
Pat, which other Mick is racing with you these days? Is it yerman from out Clonroche direction?
Mick O’ Neill he’s from up around white mt where Murphy lives now, remember him he used to come cycling with us. He says he is going to buy a bike an make a come back ???? have to wait an see!
Hi Pat,
That’s no bother, yeah we went out for a spin in Ballinastoe first and then headed down to have a look at the race and the seup of the whole thing, well organised and run by the Epic Mtb club. So you actually took part? Goog man!!! Dont think im that fit yet !
ya was my 3rd race was in the sports cat came 23rd. getting better think i was 43rd in my first one and the second race in ballinastoe cost me a new front wheel, needless yo say i didnt finish that one.
Well done, I haven’t raced since my days on the track in Crumlin! now I’m showing my age!
When is the next race on? If I’m over that side of the country and it’s fine I might head out with the camera.
I’m not sure, been a bit mad in work this weather and havent had a change to look at any of the club sites with the listings.
